Details of complaint: This house has been a problem since before 2017. It was retrofitted to become a number of flats, and currently houses more than 14 people. The house is a constant source of noise, disturbance, anti-social behaviour, litter and suspected illegal activities. Numerous complaints to the police and the municipality have achieved nothing. The owner does not live in Durban and has not obtained consent to convert this house into a mini block of flats.
Details of evidence given to the municipality: Detailed complaints, affidavits, photographs, sound recordings, Metro Police reference numbers for numerous noise complaints; meetings with municipal officials. A community protest outside the house was held on Jan 5th 2023.
Progress: No confirmed progress. Verbal assurances that notices have been issued, but no official response.
